Style at its best

  • Provides pocket-sized convenience
  • Promises premium good looks thanks to a metal and chrome finish
  • Does the basics well, whether that’s camera, Bluetooth or FM radio

Big in looks, mini in size
The T303′s diminutive size is distinctive for all the right reasons. Because it doesn’t take up much room, it’s perfect for those nights out when space is limited and not everything can come out with you. The T303′s compact size means that this phone will always be one of the chosen few.

Chic and smooth, reflecting your every move
The T303′s metal and chrome finish makes it hard for those around you not to be impressed by its premium appearance. Its soft shape and smooth sliding mechanism make it a feel-good experience that you can enjoy every day. And the mirror glass display on the front of the phone goes yet further in making the T303 even more stand-out in its appearance.

Picture perfect
The T303′s megapixel camera is ready to take pictures in an instant. So if you come across the perfect shoes whilst out and about, but want a second opinion, just one quick snap and you can send a picture message to one of your friends. You can use Bluetooth™ technology to transfer photos wire-free from your phone to a compatible computer, and then email them to any number of helpful style-advisers. Or just to send the photos of a day’s adventure directly to a friend’s phone.

Play-as-you-go
With life being ever more hectic, it’s essential to be able to slow down the pace and take time out, whenever you get the chance. The T303 comes with a built-in FM radio, meaning you can tune in, chill out, and let time just pass you by. It also has its own media player and comes preloaded with Sony Ericsson’s TrackID™ feature. Record a clip of a song in a bar or café and find out instantly what track it is and who sings it.

Accessorise
With such a good-looking phone, you’ll want to keep it that way. The Protective Case IDC-22, part of Sony Ericsson’s Design Collection, gives you the opportunity to develop your stylish look still further. Not only will it help keep your phone looking good, but it also has room for all of those essentials…your credit cards, keys and your T303.

The latest edition of Greenpeace’s quarterly Guide to Greener Electronics shows that Nokia has been pushed down from the first place by Sony Ericsson and SamsungGreenpeace first released the ‘Guide to Greener Electronics’ in August 2006 and this is the sixth version of the list. The 18 top manufactures of personal computers, mobile phones, TV’s and games consoles according to their policies on toxic chemicals and recycling. The TV and games consoles manufacturers are new this quarter.

Nokia has always been the best in class according to the Greenpeace Green Guide. The reason why Sony Ericsson now is the leader is because Nokia has penalty point deducted for deficiencies in takeback practice in Thailand, Russia and Argentina

Greenpeace tested the implementation of product takeback programmes in six countries where Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson claim, on their websites, to operate product takeback programmes. Nokia representatives in the Philippines, Thailand, Argentina, Russia and India were not informed about their companies’ own programmes and in many cases provided misleading information. Motorola staff in the Philippines, Thailand and India was unable to direct customers to collection points in their respective countries

7.7 Sony Ericsson – New leader due to improved takeback reporting, new models PVC free, but falls down on takeback practice.
7.7 Samsung – Big improvements, with more products free of the worst toxic chemicals. Loses points for incomplete takeback practice.
7.3 Sony – More products free of toxic PVC and improved reporting on recycling and takeback especially in the US.
7.3 Dell – Unchanged since the last version, still no products on the market without the worst chemicals.
7.3 Lenovo – Unchanged since the last version, still no products on the market without the worst chemicals.
7 Toshiba – Much improved on toxic chemicals but still lobbies in the US for regressive takeback policies.
7 LGE – Unchanged since the last version, need better takeback for products other than phones.
7 Fujitsu-Siemens – Unchanged since the last version, needs toxic elimination timelines, better takeback coverage and reporting of amounts recycled.
6.7 Nokia – A steep fall! Strong on toxic chemicals but penalty point deducted for deficiencies in takeback practice in Thailand, Russia and Argentina during our testing.
6.7 HP – Finally provided timelines for eliminating worst toxic chemicals, though not for all products; needs to improve takeback coverage.
6 Apple – Slightly improved with new iMacs and some iPods reducing the use of toxic chemicals, takeback programme still needs more work.
5.7 Acer – Unchanged since the last version, needs better takeback coverage and reporting of amounts recycled.
5 Panasonic – Unchanged since the last version, need better takeback coverage and reporting of amounts recycled.
5 Motorola – Big faller due to penalty point for poor takeback practice in Philippines, Thailand and India revealed by our testing. Still no timelines for eliminating the most harmful chemicals.
4.7 Sharp – New to the guide – some plus points on toxic chemicals elimination but poor takeback policy and practice.
2.7 Microsoft – New to the guide – long timeline for toxic chemicals elimination (2011) and poor takeback policy and practice.
2 Philips – New to the guide – no timeline for toxic chemicals elimination and zero points on e-waste policy and practice.
0 Nintendo – New to the guide – first global brand to score zero across all criteria!

Ranking criteria explained

The ranking criteria reflect the demands of the Toxic Tech campaign to the electronics companies. Our two demands are that companies should:

  • clean up their products by eliminating hazardous substances;
  • takeback and recycle their products responsibly once they become obsolete.

The two issues are connected. The use of harmful chemicals in electronics prevents their safe recycling when the products are discarded. Companies scored marks out of 30 this has then been calculated to a mark out of 10 for simplicity

Sony Ericsson today announced the W380 Walkman, W890 Walkman and K660 phone models

Information about the Sony Ericsson K660 was leaked earlier this week. Two other models were revealed at a press conference late Tuesday evening. The entry-level model named W380 and the mid-range model W890.

The W380 highlights are: Clamshell model with gesture control where alarm and calls are muted by moving the hand in front of the phone. The camera could be better with just 1.3 megapixel resolution. But this is holding the price down of course. W380 support Bluetooth Stereo (A2DP) for stereo transmission to your Bluetooth stereo headset. The design is something slightly different. You probably love it or hate it.

Sony Ericsson W890 has approximately the same dimensions as the W800 Walkman model. It is only 9.9mm thin but still has room for a 3.2 megapixel camera. Sony Ericsson has finally started to ship phones models with support for UMTS and EDGE networks. The supported networks by W890 are 850/900/1800/1900 WCDMA 2100, EDGE and UMTS. A 2GB Memory Stick Micro card is included in the package.

The K660 is promoted as a Web-optimised phone. It has Google Maps for Mobile pre-installed. HSDPA for fast downloading but only a 2.0 megapixel camera. All Sony Ericsson K-series models are usually promoted as a Cyber-Shot phones, but the word Cyber-Shot is not mentioned at all in the press release.
